Here is a loose collection of information about the ✨brand-new Siglent
SDS804X HD Oscilloscope, which seems to be a very good deal if you are
in the market for a new scope in the 400-500 €/$ range. I have written
this short post because there isn't much information available so far.
There has been a big thread on eevblog.com/forum about the scope,
which I followed during the release. There is also a review
thread that is much better done than I could ever do myself, so I'll link it instead.
Also, somebody provided instructions on how to convince the scope to
act as a faster SDS824X HD, with much greater bandwidth. People say it
works, but beware. I haven't done this myself.

Last time I checked, my version of Sigrok doesn't support the
oscilloscope, but it seems fairly easy to extend the Siglent SDS
drivers of Sigrok, assuming the scope follows the same communication
interface, which all other Siglent scopes do. Not sure about the
outcome; I might try this myself if nobody has done it so far.
Siglent's predecessor the SDS1000x (sigrok wiki link)
Series is supported by the driver.
I preordered my scope on welectron.com, a German
test equipment🔬 dealer with good service that is based
in my city. They are very helpful and have an english/german
speaking phone service. Welectron seems to ship internationally.
They are an official Siglent seller and offer all sorts of things.
In my first amateurish impression, the SDS804 performs better
than my old Tektronix 2215, which was to be expected for a new
brand new DSO. It's sometimes a bit sluggish compared to my average
computer but good enough for an affordable device that runs embedded Linux.
I don't bring the required expertise to compare it to other
devices of its class, nor should my opinion matter. The fan is audible in a
quiet environment, that's the only thing I am not liking so far.
It should be very easy to replace it with a quiet alternative fan someday,
if it ever becomes necessary. But nothing out of the ordinary.
Overall I am very happy with my new DSO. I'd probably use it for my electronics
projects and for debugging serial/i2c/1wire communication.
